SELF-CRITICISM

Have you ever heard of “you are your worst critic?” Well, for most it really does apply. Being in your head for a long period can cause you to start having doubts, stress, and decrease self-esteem.

criticism, or the act of pointing out one’s perceived flaws, can be a healthy way to increase self-awareness and achieve personal growth, but it may also prove a barrier to one’s self-esteem and peace of mind.

Self-criticism can take a toll on mental health and is most common in those who experience:

-depression

-social anxiety

-eating and food issues (disorders)

-self-harm

WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF SELF-CRITICISM?

  1. There’s nothing I truly like about myself.

  2. I’ll never do well enough at school or work to succeed.

  3. I’m not worthy of seeking things that interest me.

  4. Other people are more deserving of happiness.

Having these negative thoughts are significant signs of self-criticism and seeking therapy can be beneficial.
